How does "Watch My Back" work?

Last Updated: Jan 23, 2018 10:07AM PST
Use “Watch my back" if you are walking to your car late at night, jogging alone or just need someone to watch your back if you are feeling nervous.

Set the watch my back safety timer and when it expires ping will ask you to check in. If you don’t check in, Ping will notify your emergency contacts. If they are available to help, Ping will share your last known location and phone number with them.
  • To start the “Watch my Back” safety timer
    • Tap “Watch My Back” and set the timer for when you would like Ping to check back with you.
    • 2 minutes before the safety timer expires, Ping will send you a notification letting you know the timer is about to expire.
    • 5 seconds before the timer expires, Ping will beep and vibrate your phone.
  • To cancel the safety timer
    • Tapping “I’m safe” at any time will cancel the safety timer and no one will be notified.
  • If you do not check in when the safety timer expires:
    • Ping will notify your first emergency contact with a text message and ask them if they are available to help. If there is no response Ping will try the same contact again in 2 minutes.
    • If your emergency contact responds “yes” to the text message meaning they are available to check in with you, then Ping will send your location and contact information.
    • Ping will cycle through and contact each of your emergency contacts 10 times if there is no response.
